A Sanctuary on Borrowed Time

Set within the Japanese landscape, the project begins with the idea that architecture is only a temporary guest in a place shaped by nature long before our arrival.

​

Rather than clearing the site, the architecture responds to what already exists—trees, rocks, terrain, views, and changing seasons. The building settles between these elements, allowing the landscape to remain present and gradually transform the experience of living within it.

Natural materials such as stone, wood, concrete, glass, and earth are chosen not to resist time, but to record it. Surfaces weather, light shifts, vegetation grows, and the atmosphere changes from season to season.

A Sanctuary on Borrowed Time is therefore not conceived as an object imposed upon nature, but as a temporary place of dwelling within it—a quiet coexistence between landscape, architecture, and human life.
